Hola Familia!!
This week has been crazy. I'll start
by answering questions as usual.
Traveling was fine. Everything went
well and we got here safely. We just traveled with all the kids from Mexico. I
didn't know any of them and most of them are.. interesting so I kept to myself
for the most part. I don't know if the guys in the picture were who I traveled
with. When we arrived in Tampa President and his wife and the AP's were there
to meet us. We also met up with all the English speakers who were on a
different flight. I don't know any of them. We then packed all our bags in the
trailer and drove to the hotel. The hotel was super nice, but it actually made
me more homesick because as a family we have stayed at a hotel exactly like
that one. It was a good night's sleep but I was ready to get going.
I like the mission president. He is
awesome. We had interviews last Monday night and even though they were short, I
really like him. He knows what he is doing and he is trying to make sure that
everybody is on the same page. He focuses a lot on obedience which I really
love.
On Tuesday after the
orientation we got our companions and left to our area.
I love my new companion. His name is
Elder James and he is really cool. He is from Arizona and he just turned 20 on
the 18th of this month. He is a really good trainer and I have learned a
lot. Our area is not very good as far as investigators go and now they are
ending knocking so we have to rely on the branch. Yes, we have a branch, not a
ward. There are maybe 60 people in the branch and there are maybe 10 in our
area. It is very hard to get them to help us, but hopefully that will change.I am in my new place. I got here last Tuesday. My address is:
210 3rd St. W. Apt. 3111
Bradenton, FL, 34205
I have not yet received my bike
because they have to send it to a members house so we should get it today.
Hopefully, because last week we had the car but we have to share and this week
we are only on bikes so I should get it today.
Some of the areas are sketchy. We
have been told that we are going to get shot so that has been fun. Haha
We are not worried. We are in apartments and it is just my companion and I which is nice. There is a little building by the pool that has computers. That is where we email.
Yes, my PDay is for sure on Mondays. From 10am-6pm.
I don't know when the next meeting is. I have not seen Josh
yet, but I did see Lindsey Backman. I don't really know her, but it was still
cool seeing someone I recognize.
Okay, now an update on my week.First day, we unloaded Elder James' old companions stuff from the car and there was a frog on the helmet. It jumped off and then jumped on my shoe. I just laughed and kicked it off. After Mexico and being up since 1, nothing was really phasing me.
I have met almost all our investigators. One group of investigators is too busy apparently so I haven't seen them yet. But it has been really cool getting to know everyone. They are mostly youth, and they all speak English so we mostly teach in English. We still study Spanish and it is still improving, but the youth all speak English.
The weather here is basically the same as Mexico. It has rained every day without fail and we are not allowed to be outside in the rain so we can't do anything if we are at home when it starts. I will send pictures when I can.
My companion is awesome. I already told you a little bit about him, but we get a long really well and he is really cool. He has a twin who is serving in Cali right now. Oh, and he split his arm open a couple weeks ago when a mirror that used to be in our bathroom fell on him. He had to go to the ER. So that was fun to hear about. Now we are just waiting for his arm to heal.
The food here is amazing! A lot of what we eat is the same as in Mexico, but it is a thousand times better. I love it!
Thank you so much for the packages. It was so nice having the snacks and cereal. Last week I didn't have to buy much at the store because you guys sent me that. Thank you! and Thank you for the plaque! It is on my desk.
Well, my daily schedule is this: Wake up, work out, get ready, personal study, comp study, language study, lunch, 12 week(the new training schedule for new missionaries), and then we go out and teach. Around 5:30 we have dinner and other than that we just try and teach who we can.
That is pretty much everything. I will try and write what I can each week. I probably can't write back and forth very much anymore but I will answer all your questions. I love you guys! I'll send pictures next time. I love it here and I am very happy!
Love,
Your missionary,
Elder Moyes
